Inquiry Details

National officials disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing burst into flames and an engine fell off shortly after departure from the aviation hub, resulting in the aircraft to crash and erupt into a blaze.

The NTSB stated it is examining the plane’s service record, which was in the state for fixes weeks ahead of the accident.

Flight tracking information revealed the plane was on the ground in the Texas city from early September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this aircraft was located in San Antonio,” stated an NTSB member on Thursday, without providing a specific time frame. “We will review all elements of service that was completed, even the repair visit, all the way to the date of the trip.”

Retrieval of Vital Evidence

The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were found, and the motor was located on the airfield.

The units – called black boxes – were constructed to endure crash impacts and extreme fire from fires, and they appeared to be undamaged when discovered among the wreckage. Investigators plan on analyzing recordings from the black boxes.

Jet’s final data recordings showed an height of 475 ft and a speed of 210 mph before the crash.

Repair Background

According to aviation authority files dated 18 September, a fissure on a structural piece in the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it offers airframe maintenance for the carrier’s jet and operates a maintenance center in Texas, refused to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities contacted it.

Activities Continue

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport operations restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air also known as nighttime procedure, official the company official said. All three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also reopened.

The distribution hub in this location is the organization’s biggest. The center employs more than 20,000 people in the area, processes numerous trips daily and processes in excess of four hundred thousand parcels each hour.

Community Support

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the night of 6 November by the local Teamsters Union, which represents workers at the Louisville airport, the organization’s biggest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which supports UPS workers, began the vigil with a quiet tribute at that time, the estimated moment of the incident before.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official addressed the crowd of attendees. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to any of those who we have mourned.”
