PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
